My father's father, John Herman Bartz, and Mary's father's father,Paul Bernhard Bartz, were two of the sons of Wilhelm Bartz and JohannaKosbab. The family immigrated to northern Wisconsin in about 1872 viaHamburg from a place called Bandsekow (don't know how that is/wasspelled in German/Polish), Kreis Stolp in Pomern. Stolp is one of thesmall cities around Stettin.
Johanna was born in about 1846 and died 3/25/1931 in Hayes, Wisconsin.
Johanna's family had already settled in the Shawano area, and one ofher brothers, Theodor (b. 11/1835), sent them the tickets for theship.
Johanna's sister, Henrietta (b. 3/1858), married Edward Suring. The1920 Census of the U.S. - Wisconsin, Ocotno County, says that sheimmigrated in 1872.
Both of Johanna's parents also immigrated and were living in theShawano area in 1880 - the family is listed in the 1880 census and oneof Wilhelm and Johanna's other children (Wilhem - "Uncle Willy") wasliving with one of the Kosbab families at the time of that census.
I can't remember what her father's name was - her mother's name wasSarah, and I was always told that her maiden name was "Kuschel".
