Surname is Hunchen

HUNCHEN
The 1891 Census states Louise Hinchen came from Berlin, Germany. We have no other proof or evidence to support this? Any clues?
Could Louise Hinchen originally been something else like Kinchen... ? (see next topic)

HÜNCHEN Louise
According to Charlie Kosbab the surname of Louise was HÜNCHEN with one of those little things above the Ü.
What we know about the word Hunchen:
Hunchen is a small bird in Austrian,
Hunchen is also a fish: HUNCHEN THE FISH
Hunchen is also a christian name: (oh dear)
The following links were returned when searching for the word Hunchen but I cannot locate the name in any of the files. It is now my opinion that Hunchen was not Loiusa's real surname. It may have been her original middle or christian name but my gut feeling is due to the lack of evidence.

Notes for Henry2 KOSBAB

[Kosbab.ftw]

MILITARY
Henry Kosbab met Maud Mary Westlake while she was visiting Hampton Court one fine summers day, and fell in love with him. He was in army uniform, so what war is it connected with? It would have been around 1897-1899.
Does anyone recognise the army uniform worn by Henry Kosbab and can tell us any more about it?
Henry Kosbab and his brother JACK were said to have been in the trenches in France together and Jack suffered from frost bite (foot rot) Who was JACK? No brother that we know of was named Jack. Could Otto Junior have been nicknamed Jack?
Another anomaly here is... If Henry Kosbab was born in Germany and migrated as a child to England, could he have served in the British Army?
Possibly Otto Kosbab served in WW1 with the Australian Army and suffered from terrible mustard gas burns.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE
We have never been able to locate the birth certificate or place of birth of Henry Kosbab. We do not know if he was born in England or possible Germany. There are some who think it is odd that the first 2 children of Otto and Louise Kosbab basically had the same Christian name, Henry and Henrietta. Another anomaly here is that Henrietta's birth certificate gives her father as Henry Kosbab not Otto.

Notes for Otto Henry Frantz KOSBAB

[Kosbab.ftw]

Henrietta Kosbab's Birth Certificate (Daughter b1878) Father named as Henry (not Otto)
*1881 Census (3 years later) he is the family head named as Franzt (not Otto)
1891 Census (10 years later) he is named as Otto.
Henry Kosbab's marriage certificate names his father as Otto.
Franzt and Otto appear to be the same person 1881 = 40 1891 = 50
Questions about Otto Kosbab:
What college or university could he have taught Mathematics at?
What college or university are near the river Thames?
His occupation was noted as Gardener so why, or how could he also been a teacher?
If Otto/Henry/Franzt was capable of speaking 7 different languages, why would he have been a mere gardener, or even taught Mathematics?

Apparently could speak 7 languages - linguist
Story: Eloped because he got Louise into trouble. He appears to have used either of the 3 christian
names.
Noted on son Charles marriage certificate as HenryPrussian Army
Marched to church
The head of the Kosbab empire in the UK. While we know a lot about his wife and children, we know very little about him. We do not know exactly when and where he born, parents, brothers and sisters. Education etc etc.
He was a professor of Mathematics and taught at a college in England (although, when the story was related, the word University was mentioned) down by the river Thames. The story goes that Otto Kosbab married one of his German students, Louise Hunchen. (see below)

*1881 Census - Name recorded as Frantz Husbert

Notes for William Jnr WESTLAKE

[Kosbab.ftw]

We have no birth or death certificate of Wm Westlake (Maud Mary Westlakes father). The 1881 Census says he was born in Horrabridge, although this could be Stampford Spiney. The registrar could only find a William Westlake for 1850 born in Lynford with parents Wm Westlake and Maria Worden.
A Wm Westlake was christened in Horrabridge in 1853 to parents Wm Westlake (blacksmith -born Buckland Monachorum) and Ann Gilbert (born St Austell). It is believed he died during the second world war.
On his marriage certificate he gives his fathers and his own occupation as Smith. The two witnesses were William and Edward Gilbert possible brothers of Ann Gilbert. A William Gilbert with the right age was located in St Austell.
On Maud Mary's birth certificate, her father (Wm) is a Blacksmith but in the 1881 Census he was a Railway Labourer.

George Kosbab believes he died when he was about 12 - 14 years old (1915+13=1928)
